A NEW ERA FOR LUXURY
INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIOS

The Accouter studio has reflected on the positive outcomes that have made an impact on interior design studios across the globe. The studio now directs their efforts to learn and progress and in particular for the interior design industry, the lack of inclusivity is an alarming issue that should not be ignored.

UNITED IN DESIGN

In light of recent news, in association with Accouter Group of Companies, Accouter have joined forces with United in Design, a charitable organisation set up to address the lack of inclusivity in the interior design industry.

United in Design, was founded by Sophie Ashby and Alexandria Dauley to address the lack of inclusivity in the UK Interior Design industry. Specifically, the lack of representation from the black, Asian, ethnic minority and low socio-economic communities. Through partnerships with established educational programmes, industry professionals and sponsors, the intention is to provide a clear road map for increased inclusivity in all sectors of the industry – design studios, makers, suppliers to individuals and magazines.

Accouter strive to be a company that is more representative of the world they design for. The team want to be part of an industry that is filled with, and supports talent from all backgrounds, abilities, ages and identities.

Recognising their privilege, the team pledge to proactively reform both their business and the wider interiors industry to be inclusive, representative of the society it aspires to serve and creatively stronger by bolstering the underrepresented talent.

For Accouter, the nominated ambassadors have identified four main initiatives on which the studio has built their inclusivity pledge on;

EDUCATION

By committing to visiting schools and colleges to encourage awareness and present opportunities within our industry, offering mentoring programs within the courses and donating to disadvantaged creative schools for supplies such as Make Bank.

RECRUITMENT

Ensuring that the studio is reflective of society and draws on the talents of a diverse workforce by seeking advice on their employment strategy. In addition to this, offer apprenticeships to people from a disadvantaged background or someone who may have felt for any reason that the industry would not welcome them.

SUPPLIERS

By diversifying Accouter’s supplier database by; researching, celebrating and using the new and unheard voices of diverse suppliers and artisans from all backgrounds in society.

ADVOCACY

The team are honoured to join industry peers in a bid to deliver an equal opportunity pathway into the interior design industry. Accouter will continue to share their journey in hope of diminishing the statistics and hand in hand, strive for a more positive future.

“the intention is to provide a clear road map for increased diversity in all sectors of the industry.”
