A WALK AROUND DECOREX 2022 WITH ACCOUTER
Earlier this month, Accouter Design had the pleasure of attending Decorex 2022; Europe’s leading design event. Decorex is an inspiring opportunity for designers and brands within the interior industry to connect, discover and exhibit. A selection of hand-picked interior brands display their finest designs, collections and products, making it a perfect event to discover the latest interior trends. Within this blog, Accouter will be sharing their experience of Decorex, through a selection of our favourite, inspiring designs which were discovered.
TEXTURED CERAMICS
The first key trend we noticed involved new organic forms of ceramics, as shown by the ceramicist, Olivia Walker. Walker’s mesmerising work captures the idea of ‘organic and decaying forms through the build-up of complex surfaces’, which can be seen through the intricate detailing within the ‘decaying’ areas of the ceramics. The beautiful element to this style is the contrast between the smooth edges and the straight, harsher lines within the details, both the perfections and imperfections marry together in a captivating, intrinsic style. Beautifully created ceramics can be displayed beautifully in larger, more open areas of the home.
CURVED SEATING
Curved seating has been a trend that has made its way into the industry for many years, and Decorex proved that it is here to stay. Materials consisting of bouclé, velvet and two-toned fabrics were among the more popular designs sighted at the event. Using this type of seating within the home adds a subtle touch of character, whether in a living room for your choice of family seating, or even as a singular chair in the bedroom for added personal style. The sleek, sophisticated silhouette that curved furniture creates is what makes the trend so appealing, and its popularity has continued to flourish. Instead of the angular, rigid lines that can be seen in other furniture pieces, curved seating appears softer and smoother.
OVERSIZED, EXTRAVAGENT LIGHTING
Oversized, statement lighting is a trend which we have featured previously on our Autumn Winter Trends Guide 2022, and it was most certainly noticed at this year’s Decorex. The lantern style lighting pictured here is relaxed and contemporary, promising the addition of character and personality to a home. The vibrant colours and rich textures used would makes them a piece of art within a home, transforming any room that requires rejuvenation. Immediately drawing attention, these designs could be used as an alternative to the traditional chandeliers typically used in large, open rooms. Natural textures and vivid colour palettes are being explored further by high-end interior designers, allowing more fun to be had with our interiors.
ABSTRACT PATERNS
The final key trend we saw at Decorex this year was the use of abstract patterns. As pictured here in the Riviere luxury custom rug, the geometrical shapes create a 3D effect, which could be added to an otherwise neutral room. Abstract art has been a permanent trend in the interior world, so to see it being presented in piece which could typically be quite simplistic, is very exciting. Although the colours pictured here are more subtle, this trend could be used in a multitude of styles and palettes, to completely elevate and uplift a room. With many of our homes becoming our safe havens where we spend most of our time, introducing abstract furniture can breathe life into our spaces again.
