IMMERSED IN TIMELESS ANTIQUES: ACCOUTER’S BRAND-NEW LUXURY NYC PRIVATE RESIDENCE

In the heart of New York City, where history whispers through every cobblestone and architectural detail, we recently had privilege of working on a truly remarkable private client project. Nestled within a building filled with history and opulence, this exclusive residence presented us with a unique opportunity to blend the timeless elegance of the past with the refined sophistication of contemporary living. Our client’s vision was clear: to create a sanctuary that not only honours the storied history of the space but also reflects their own personal taste.

To achieve this, our New York team curated an exquisite collection of antiques, each piece chosen for its ability to tell a story, evoke emotion, and seamlessly integrate with the fabric of the building’s history. The result is an interior that transcends time—a carefully balanced composition where past and present converge to create a home that is as warm and inviting as it is steeped in character. This project exemplifies our commitment to capturing the essence of our clients' desires while paying homage to the architectural heritage that makes each space truly unique.

"The pieces we selected for this project were chosen to complement the exquisite, historic features of the property, ensuring every element respected the grandeur of this iconic Georgian-era building. With its rich architectural detail, we sourced items that reflected the elegance of the period while also ensuring functionality. Our focus wasn’t just on beauty—it was essential that every piece served its purpose, given the client’s emphasis on using the space for hosting.

We collaborated closely with some of New York’s most notable galleries, particularly Newel Gallery and Guy Regal, whose expertise and resources were invaluable. Sourcing the one-of-a-kind antiques was no small feat; the rarity of certain pieces meant it often took weeks, even months, to acquire them. Each item we found, though, came with a rich history and was impeccably suited to the space, ensuring minimal wear or the possibility of careful restoration.

A particularly stunning feature of the property was the marble cornicing and trim, which, along with the uniquely veined fireplaces, guided many of our design choices. We enhanced this by sourcing pieces that accentuated the stone’s natural tones, while offsetting it with rich, textured fabrics like deep velvets and luminous satins.

The client entrusted us to lead the vision, collaborating with them on concepts and layouts that would transform the space into a refined setting for formal, elegant gatherings. Drawing inspiration from the Gilded Age and Old New York iconography, we crafted an interior that not only tells the story of the home’s illustrious past but also serves as a luxurious and inviting space for modern living."

“The setting for this project is an historic enclave known for its charming townhouses and serene gardens, dating back to the early 20th century and offering a secluded, picturesque retreat amidst the bustling city of the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Designing for a Grade I listed building in New York requires thoughtful consideration. Using the curation of antiques and a design that seamlessly complimented the architecture. The building's historical significance called for a careful selection of period-appropriate furnishings and decor that enhanced its original character. Each antique piece was selected to harmonise with the architectural features, ensuring that the overall design felt cohesive and respectful of the building's heritage.

Working on such an incredible design project in New York is every designers dream, that I feel very privileged to of been apart of. The city's vibrant energy and rich history provide endless inspiration, especially in a city that thrives on innovation and style. Creating a design that will exist within such an iconic setting is an incredible experience.”
