As we prepare to unveil an exciting new residence at the Waldorf Astoria Residences New York later this summer, we are pleased to share a glimpse into the design story behind the project.
Located within one of New York's most celebrated landmarks, the private residence represents a thoughtful fusion of two worlds, the architectural legacy and glamour of the Waldorf Astoria, and the warmth, familiarity and character of the family's London home.
Inspired by the building's rich Art Deco heritage, the design draws upon its historic architectural language through refined detailing, sculptural forms and carefully layered materiality. Balancing this sense of grandeur is a deeply personal approach that reflects the lifestyle, memories and individuality of the family who will call it home.
The result is a timeless residence that honours the Waldorf Astoria's illustrious past while creating an authentic and welcoming environment for modern family life.
A CONTEMPORARY INTERPRETATION OF AN ICON
The Waldorf Astoria's architectural character provided a natural foundation for the design narrative. Throughout the residence, we have referenced the building's celebrated Art Deco language through bespoke furniture pieces and rich, textured materials.
Rather than recreating the past, the design interprets these historic influences through a contemporary lens. Rich veneers, lustrous finishes and elegant architectural gestures and accessories create a sense of timeless sophistication while remaining relevant to modern living.
All elements within our design has been selected for both the aesthetic qualities but also for the story it contributes to the wider composition. We have created a truly layered narrative that reflects both the history of the building and the individuality of the family who will call it home.
A SENSE OF HOME IN A NEW CITY
While the residence embraces the grandeur associated with the Waldorf Astoria, equal importance has been placed on creating warmth, familiarity and comfort.
Drawing inspiration from the family's London residence, we have woven familiar textures, materials and collected pieces throughout the interior. This careful continuity ensures the home feels immediately welcoming, creating a sense of belonging despite the change in setting.
Tactile fabrics, curated artworks and meaningful personal objects sit alongside more formal design elements, bringing authenticity into each space. The result is an interior that feels collected over time rather than composed in a single moment.
