WHAT SUSTAINABILITY INTERIOR DESIGN MEANS FOR ACCOUTER
As part of Accouter Group of Companies, since 2012 we've been on a mission to be the best furnishing and interior provider on the planet. Now we are on a mission to make the planet a better place too.
As a future-focused collective, we realise how much difference we could be making on eco and social levels. So instead of sustaining and maintaining our performance, we are prioritising plans to regenerate and commence a never-ending journey towards 'sustainability' and do our bit to make the planet a better place for every being.
In addition to that, we’re constantly partnering with other sustainable interior and architectural businesses around the world.
Accouter Design Director, Esra Kumbasar spoke to Monique Stamp, UK Director at Riviere Rugs about sustainability and design. In the interview, the pair covered the importance of sustainability for leading artisans such as Riviere, which for the designers, is becoming an increasingly important factor within their designs. SUSTAINABLE INTERIOR DESIGN SERVICES IN THE UK
In parallel with our desire to continuously create new and innovative designs, our pledge towards sustainability is an equally evolving journey. We are constantly looking for ways to develop our awareness and knowledge of sustainability within the interior design industry. Understanding the increasingly important role we play in protecting the planet, has encouraged us to focus our efforts on introducing an increasing amount of sustainable measures.
Director Lottie Simonson, are directing efforts on measures that deliver the biggest impacts. Our aim is to continuously review and improve our environmental performance with an emphasis on minimising any destructive environmental impact.
Sustainability measures have already seen us achieve our ISO14001 Environmental certification, and we are committed to obtaining our B Corp certification. In addition, we are proud to partner with Walpole and its members to work towards a shared ambition of creating a more sustainable industry for the top British Luxury Brands.
“We have begun our impressive mission to becoming a fully carbon-neutral company. Carbon neutral status is difficult within the interior design sector and we are collaborating with other Walpole members to define and deliver on benchmarks set for the luxury industry.”
“As proud members of Walpole, we are thrilled to join forces with Britain’s most remarkable luxury brands. Together we look forward to supporting and collaborating with our peers and play an active role in influencing the voice of luxury on a global scale. Our ambition is to take learnings from other industries within the sector to influence the world of interiors, especially within a sustainable practice.”

SUSTAINABLE INTERIOR DESIGN FOR LONGEVITY AND FLEXIBILITY
Today, people are far more conscious of the way in which the world’s natural resources are diminishing. Moving into 2022, they will become more entrenched in a period of nurturing their moral senses, which the designers believe will transpire through a greater focus on sustainability in terms of the materials they use and the brands they shop from.
Up until now, individuals assumed they had to choose between sleek minimalist and modern interiors, or a vintage look. However, this year the team predict people will move past this notion, curating a hybrid concept that combines the merits of both and enables individuals to be more environmentally conscious when sourcing items. From Victorian wooden furniture or panelling, mouldings and occasional chairs to statement accents and vases and pottery, we will see an increased market demand for these items as people mix the old and new in an ethical and sustainable fashion.
In association with Accouter Group of Companies, the luxury e-commerce Bazaar has an exclusive antique offering with hand-selected pieces by the Accouter designers. Not only that but the shoppable Accouter schemes have been crafted to last a lifetime.
Accouter's array of international private clients and developers usually seek to capture something of themselves in space: a sense of belonging, aspiration, or historical narrative. Working with our network of artisans and global curators, the team of award-winning interior designers, create environments that capture the threads of that narrative, perfectly balancing form and function and pulling them together to fashion remarkable living spaces.
